Damaturu – President Muhammadu Buhari and four Ministers have paid a sympathy visit on Government Girls Science Technical School, Dapchi.
The Ministers include Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, Education, Adamu Adamu, Sports Solomon Dalung and Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau.
Other guests were the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim K. Idris, Director General SSS Lawal Daura, Chief of Air Staff Sadiq Abubakar, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim and other important stakeholders.
President Buhari was in Dapchi to meet with the Parents of the abducted Girls of the GGSTC.
In his address, President Muhammadu Buhari appealed to the Parents to exercise patience and hoped to overcome the security challenges. “It is one of our campaign pledge to provide peace, fight corruption, unemployment and poverty.”
He said that prior to his coming the Country is under serious state of insecurity “some places in Borno and Yobe States were under the control of the Boko Haram insurgents.”
According to him the insurgents have now decimated to using teenagers to detonate explosives.
The Commander in chief also revealed that the security operatives have been mobilised adequately to ensure the rescue of the abducted Girls of GGSTC Dapchi”.
“The federal government would adequately fund the security agencies to ensure peaceful coexistence, I pray they return healthy and continue with their education.”
He stressed that he will never allow Boko Haram insurgents to continue perpetrating evils of killing innocent people in Churches and Mosques.
Earlier speaking, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam said that when the incident occurred he was in Abuja for an official engagement where he rushed back to Yobe and drove to Dapchi, met the Parents and talked to them.
“We have asked all our stakeholders to embark on rigorous prayers for the safe return of the abducted Girls of GGSTC. I call on you to give useful information to the security agents.”
The Principal of the College, Hajiya Adama Abdulkarim told President Muhammad Buhari that on Monday 19th February 2018 they heard an unusual sounds of gunshots in Dapchi town around 7pm, “later they started shooting sporadically, some of our students jumped over the fence for safety, in the morning the local government Chairman, Executive Secretary of Yobe State Science and Technical Schools Board and Commandant of the Military from Geidam were here to help us, on 20th February 2018 the staff conducted a head count of the students and discovered that only 906 students were present, after the head count we realised that 110 could not be accounted for.
“We transferred the Senior Secondary three to Government Girls College, Nguru to enable them write their SSCE final year examinations.”
After the national anthem, the parents of the abducted girls broke into tears and cried.
Speaking in tears, Chairman of the Parents of the abducted Girls, Bashir Munzo, appealed to Parents not to be discouraged from sending their children to school, he acknowledged the efforts of President Muhammad Buhari and Governor Ibrahim Gaidam for their efforts in ensuring the rescue of the abducted girls.
